A hardy plant that produces heavy crops of succulent spears
Cultivation: Grow in fertile, deep soil with high moisture retention but good drainage. Ground should be manured the previous autumn. Broccoli likes an alkaline soil so calcified seaweed or garden lime can be added to avoid clubroot. May need support of earthing up or staking on exposed sites.
Pests and Diseases: A member of the cabbage family broccoli is susceptible to: Cabbage root fly, caterpillars, especially Small and Large Cabbage White Butterfly, Cabbage Moth, Mealy Aphid and Clubroot
