An evergreen, perennial, sub-shrub. The red stems carry slightly hairy grey-green leaves and small white to pink flowers in summer. All parts of the plant are used and it has a mild oregano flavour with a hint of balsam.
Cultivation: Grow in sharply drained soil in full sun. Prefers a neutral to alkaline soil and sheltered site
Height & Spread: 60cm x 45cm
Culinary Uses: Leaves are used in soups, stuffing and meat dishes as well as tomato sauces and pasta. Also used in oils an vinegars. As the flavour is delicate it is best added towards end of the cooking.
