Fully hardy, clump forming perennial with narrow, hollow cylindrical, onion-like flavoured leaves. Flowers form rounded umbels of pale purple, pink and occasionally white. Helps to control blackspot in roses, discourages Japanese beetles and can prevent insects climbing fruit trees. Chives self-seed and clumps can be divided.
Cultivation: Grow in rich, well-drained to slightly heavier soil in full sun

Culinary Uses: Leaves are chopped and used with potatoes and eggs, as well as being used to flavour soups, salads, soft cheeses, omelettes and sauces. Flowers are edible and can be used fresh in salads
