Hardy biennial with hollow stems and fern-like leaves. Small white tinged pink flowers in summer followed by aromatic ribbed fruits. Leaves and seeds have a liquorice-anise like flavour. A useful companion plant in the garden as flowers attract parasitic wasps that prey on many garden pests
Cultivation: Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun

Culinary Uses: Leaves are used to flavour soups and salads, Seeds are added to breads, cakes, meat, cheese and vegetable dishes. The root can also be cooked as a vegetable.
